  • 8% of companies analyse their own big data from smart devices or sensors.

8% of companies with 10 or more employees in the Flemish Region in 2018 analysed their own big data from smart devices or sensors. This stood at 6% in 2016.

  • Analysis of big data from smart devices or sensors proportional to company size

The analysis of own big data from smart devices or sensors is more firmly embedded in big companies. In 2018, the share of companies with 250 or more employees analysing their own big data from smart devices was 36%. This share is 15% in companies with 50 to 249 employees and 6% in companies with 10 to 49 employees. In companies with 2 to 9 employees, 3% analysed big data.

It is also worth noting that analysis of own big data from smart devices or sensors rose in popularity between 2016 and 2018: the share of companies analysing these big data has risen in each size category. The absolute increase is greater in larger companies. Companies with 2 to 9 employees were not yet questioned in 2016.

  • Flemish companies at top of EU companies which analyse their own big data from smart devices or sensors

The share of companies with at least 10 employees analysing their own big data from smart devices or sensors was 8% in the Flemish Region, 9% in the Brussels-Capital Region and 6% in the Walloon Region in 2018.

Belgium (7%) ranks among the top five of EU countries analysing their own big data. In the Netherlands, 10% of companies with at least 10 employees analyse these big data. The EU-28 average is 4%.
