Trucks – tonne-kilometres

  • Trucks account for 42 billion tonne-kilometres

In 2017, trucks covered well over 45 billion tonne-kilometres in the Flemish Region. Tonne-kilometre is a unit of measurement that combines weight and distance. For example, transporting 2 tonnes (of goods in weight) across a 2-kilometre distance represents 4 tonne-kilometres.

The number of tonne-kilometres for 2017 was slightly down from the previous year.

  • More tonne-kilometres in the Flemish Region than in the other regions

The number of tonne-kilometres covered by trucks is much higher in the Flemish Region than in the Walloon and Brussels-Capital Regions.
