Trucks - tonne-kilometres

Source

Definitions

Tonne-kilometre: a unit of measurement that combines weight and distance. For example, transporting 2 tonnes (of goods in weight) across a 2-kilometre distance represents 4 tonne-kilometres.

This relates to the number of tonne-kilometres covered by Belgian and foreign trucks on the roads in the Flemish Region. This should not be confused with the number of tonne-kilometres covered by Belgian trucks (at home and abroad).

Remarks on quality

Based on Table 18, column 14: Changes in the transport of goods by road in Belgium, derived from 'traffic counts', Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport (FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer)

Due to a change in the methodological approach adopted in 2013, comparing figures with previous years results in inconsistencies: from 2013 forward, the figures for Flanders have been based on vehicle kilometres (supplied by Flanders Traffic Control Centre of the Department of Mobility and Public Works (MOW);) for 2 vehicle categories using the Promovia propagation model.
